The centrepiece of the archive in the Forum is the collection (approx. 10 m) on the namesake, the lawyer, resistance fighter against the Nazis and Holocaust survivor Dr Fritz Bauer.
The collection contains all the materials that have been collected over the years on the life and work of the lawyer by his biographer and also the initiator of the Fritz Bauer Forum, the historian Dr Irmtrud Wojak, both in Germany and abroad. This was pioneering work, as the personal and private archives of the Hessian Attorney General and Auschwitz prosecutor can still not be found today.
In addition to a collection of Bauer’s works, the collection contains files (copies) of his numerous trials for Nazi crimes, biographical documents, photos, letters with relatives and friends, interview transcriptions and transcripts as well as a comprehensive collection of newspaper cuttings.
Cataloguing is carried out using a finding aid. Partial collections are digitised for users in the archive. The collection is accessible to the public with major restrictions.
In January 2023, the interactive exhibition “ Fritz Bauer – In the Fight for Human Rights ” was opened, in which users can research and virtually experience Fritz Bauer, his commitment to human rights and criminal prosecution. The exhibition is based on an analysis of the Fritz Bauer Collection.
