The Fritz Bauer Collection
Biography
Decades of research into Fritz Bauer and his legal and humanist legacy have come together in our archive and in this collection on the lawyer and human rights advocate.
In 2008, the first major biography of Fritz Bauer was published, written by the founder of the Fritz Bauer Forum, Irmtrud Wojak.
The chief prosecutor in Nuremberg, Robert M. W. Kempner, called Fritz Bauer the greatest ambassador the Federal Republic of Germany ever had.
Since the publication of the first Fritz Bauer biography in 2008, a documentary film, two feature films and several documentaries have been released.
The range of writings about Fritz Bauer goes far beyond legal topics. Search the bibliography here.
In 1998, Joachim Perels and Irmtrud Wojak researched motifs in Bauer’s thoughts and actions as editors of selected writings by the jurist.
In the struggle for human rights
The interactive digital exhibition project takes a new approach. We pose the question of Fritz Bauer’s ethical, moral and political orientation. Can Bauer’s perception and positioning as a resistance fighter still provide answers to the threatening issues of today and serve as a guide to action in defence of democracy and human rights? We think: Yes!
The exhibition was developed as part of the “dive in. Programme for Digital Interactions” of the German Federal Cultural Foundation, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) in the Neustart Kultur programme.
