The Bochum Alliance against the Right and the Children’s and Youth Ring are commemorating the 76th anniversary of the liberation from fascism and war with a memorial event at the cemetery on Freigrafendamm. The Second World War in Europe ended on 8 May 1945. For twelve years, Jews, Sinti and Roma, disabled people, homosexuals, resistance fighters of various political and religious persecutions were brutally persecuted and murdered in concentration camps.
The commemoration of the liberation from fascism is a remembrance of the victims and a tribute to the women and men who resisted fascism at great risk.
During the tour, Felix Lipski from „Klub Stern“ recalls the fate of the Soviet prisoners of war and members of the Kohlengräberland-Geschichtswerkstatt provide information about the project. Resistance against the fascist regime is the focus of the contribution by representatives of the VVN-BdA and Irmtrud Wojak (BUXUS STIFTUNG) reports on Attorney General Dr Fritz Bauer, who campaigned for the investigation and legal prosecution of Nazi crimes. Bettina Gantenberg (DGB) , who will present the „Bundestag Nazifrei“ campaign, will draw a link to current developments.
The commemorative event is also intended to send a clear signal of solidarity with the members of the Jewish community and against growing racism and anti-Semitism.
The planned course of the event may still change due to the corona pandemic. The infection protection rules (keeping the minimum distance, wearing an everyday mask) will be observed.
