Housing project for Holocaust survivors named after the Auschwitz prosecutor Dr Fritz Bauer

Crowdfunding campaign by the Israeli National Fund Keren Hayesod

The Israeli National Fund has launched a campaign under the patronage of Federal Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht (SPD).

Today, 13-15 September, Keren Hayesod is launching a fundraising campaign to benefit Holocaust survivors, some of whom live in precarious and poor conditions.

180,000 Holocaust survivors in Israel urgently need support

Many of the Holocaust survivors living in Israel receive little or no pension, with rents constantly rising and housing that is not age-appropriate. Certainly some are better provided for, especially if there are families who can help, but this is rarely the case. The international aid organisation GAIN estimates that around 45,000 of the survivors in Israel live below the poverty line and are in urgent need of support.

In Beersheva, the regional capital in the Negev desert, the construction of a new Amigour Centre, a housing project for Holocaust survivors, with 111 flats for senior citizens in need, is now intended to help improve this situation. Several floors of the new building project are to be named after the social democrat and Auschwitz prosecutor Dr Fritz Bauer.
