Werner Hansch, the „Voice of the Ruhr“ and one of Germany’s best-known football reporters, tells the story of his father, Stefan Hansch, in an interview. As a simple miner in a colliery in Recklinghausen, he smuggled explosives out of the colliery to support the resistance against Hitler. However, he was caught and sent to Buchenwald concentration camp for some time. Werner Hansch talks about growing up with a father who was never really there and how long it took him to uncover his father’s story. Because the resistance of the miners, who form such an integral part of the Ruhr region, is still not sufficiently analysed and known today.
