Landing page of the Fritz Bauer Forum in Bochum goes online

27 January Holocaust Remembrance Day 2021

On today’s 76th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp by the Red Army, the landing page of the non-profit BUXUS STIFTUNG for the Fritz Bauer Forum in Bochum goes online.

On this historically significant day, on which we remember the suffering and resistance of the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, we are pleased to be able to report on the progress of the Fritz Bauer Forum with its interactive Fritz Bauer Library in Bochum.

It was the Holocaust survivor and social democratic resistance fighter Fritz Bauer who brought Auschwitz to justice in 1963. Immediately after the so-called seizure of power, the Nazis locked him up in a concentration camp as chairman of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold in Stuttgart and it was only by luck that he was able to escape into exile in Scandinavia in 1936.

Politically persecuted people like Fritz Bauer were also targeted by the German occupying forces and their collaborators in their countries of asylum. But Fritz Bauer refused to be deterred. We have the courageous lawyer to thank for one of the first books on „War Criminals on Trial“. International criminal law and the fight against impunity for crimes against humanity were his main concerns.

Fritz Bauer’s life and work is now being given a place in Bochum with the Fritz Bauer Forum, which already exists digitally. The city of Bochum has now offered the BUXUS STIFTUNG a fascinating building for this purpose. Click here for the landing page of the current project .
