"I want to live in a country where 'We the people' means all the people."

Mark Charles is a member of the Navajo Nation. His father was a Navajo Indian and his mother was of Dutch descent. He is a writer, computer programmer and activist. His lectures explore the complexities of American history, the various intersections of history, race, culture and religion. In particular, he focuses on the so-called „Doctrine of Discovery“, the myth of the „discovery“ of America by Christopher Columbus. Charles is also a columnist and correspondent for Native News Online . Before settling in Washington, Mark Charles lived with his wife and children for eleven years on the Navajo reservation, which includes areas in Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. In July 2019, he announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States.

Mark Charles calls on Americans to rethink their values and engage in meaningful dialogue with the indigenous population to find more sustainable, inclusive and creative solutions to the country’s difficult problems such as persistent discrimination, racism, lack of education and growing income inequality, as well as climate change and migration. He is calling for a „Truth and Conciliation Commission“ to promote dialogue and understanding between indigenous people, people of other skin colours and white Americans. His candidature has now also attracted international interest . Just in time for the election campaign, Mark Charles has now also published his first book , which has received positive reviews, including from Publishers Weekly .
