The Junker and the Communist

„The Junker and the Communist“ traces the lives of Carl-Hans Graf von Hardenberg (1891-1958) and Fritz Perlitz′ (1908-1972), two men whose ideals could hardly be more different. While Hardenberg, the last lord of Neuhardenberg Castle near Berlin and a staunch monarchist, was involved in the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler on 20 July 1944, Perlitz was a staunch communist. And yet the two are linked by their common enemy, the Nazi regime. The men meet for the first time during a farm labourers‘ strike during the world economic crisis of 1931 Fritz Perlitz on the side of the workers, the Count on the other. The reunion of the two „traitors to the fatherland“ in the infirmary of Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1944 marked the beginning of a friendship against their will the union of two irreconcilable mindsets.

Starring: Reinhild von Hardenberg, Astrid von Hardenberg, Wally Perlitz, Hans Socha, Richard von Weizsäcker and others.
