Annelie Ramsbrock is a German historian and university lecturer. She holds the Chair of Modern History at the University of Greifswald. In her book „Geschlossene Gesellschaft: Das Gefängnis als Sozialversuch – eine bundesdeutsche Geschichte“ she deals with the reform of the German penal system after the end of the Second World War. In this episode of the „Schuld.Strafe.Recht?“ podcast, she talks about how the explanation of criminal behaviour and the treatment of prisoners has changed over time, whether resocialisation in closed institutions can succeed at all, and how and why sex offenders are treated in particular.
