In 1988, the social scientist Klaus Jünschke was the first „RAF prisoner“ to be released from life imprisonment as a result of a pardon. Jünschke had credibly renounced the armed struggle. Since his release, Jünschke, who was almost driven to madness in the first years of his imprisonment due to extensive isolation, has been campaigning for a more humane treatment of offenders and the homeless. For his new book „Gefangen & Wohnungslos: Gespräche mit Obdachlosen in Haft“ (Weissmann Verlag), he spoke to prisoners who were homeless before their imprisonment – and who are most likely to be homeless again afterwards.
