About the library

The Fritz Bauer Library in the listed former Havkenscheid mourning hall, which will be completed in 2023, is the landmark of the Fritz Bauer Forum.The library is the centrepiece of the entire ensemble, which is being developed by the non-profit BUXUS STIFTUNG as an international location for research, education, art and exchange in the Ruhr metropolis of Bochum. This is where special events take place, where there is space for research and reading. Visitors can also familiarise themselves with the Fritz Bauer Forum’s book publications here.

The reference library focuses on the following topics:

  • Nazi injustice and cultures of remembrance worldwide
  • Transitional justice(transitional justice and the fight against impunity)
  • History of human rights
  • Social movements (Bochum Political Archive Collection)
  • History of Survival with a special collection of (auto-)biographies of survivors from all over the world.

In particular, the large collection of (auto-)biographies of survivors with their diverse stories of resistance “Im Kampf um des Menschen Rechte” (Fritz Bauer) forms the interface to the digitalInteractive Fritz Bauer Library.

With the creative, carefully curated web platform for the voices of survivors worldwide, the Fritz Bauer Forum is committed to human rights and against war, fascism and disinformation in the spirit of its namesake.
