Bart van der Steen
Lecture & Discussion
In 1933, Marinus van der Lubbe set fire to the Reichstag. Although he hoped that the fire would incite an antifascist revolt, the fascists employed it to establish their dictatorship. How was Van der Lubbe later remembered? In this lecture, Leiden historian Bart van der Steen discusses the Reichstagbrand and the changing image of Van der Lubbe in his hometown of Leiden.
