Information on
This is the testimony that Jorge Montealegre provides with Noticias de un pueblo fantasma. Chacabuco: prisión y verso libre, in which he recalls his time as a political prisoner in one of the largest prison camps during the Chilean military dictatorship. This shows the possibility of how a prison camp has developed into an intellectual and creative space. It was in this abandoned saltpetre plant in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile that the author discovered his poetic streak as a young man. With the book Chacabuco, Jorge Montealegre not only draws on his texts and personal memories, but also travels back to Chacabuco in the Atacama Desert like an unscheduled ritual.
With Jorge Montealegre (author, connected from Santiago de Chile), Dr. Mathias Sasse (translator of the book and literary scholar, Hanover) and PD Dr. Irmtrud Wojak (historian, director of the Fritz Bauer Forum). The actress Maria Wolf will read selected passages from the book.
