Reading and discussion with the author Jorge Montealegre

Reading from the book „National Stadium 1973. Autobiographical Essay“ with the author Jorge Montealegre (Santiago de Chile) followed by a discussion between Jorge Montealegre, Dr Irmtrud Wojak (editor and director of the Fritz Bauer Forum), Pedro Crovetto (social, economic and political scientist) and Mathias Sasse (literary scholar, translator of the book for BUXUS EDITION).

Jorge Montealegre is a writer and journalist. He studied Social Communication, obtained a PhD in American Studies (Universidad de Santiago de Chile) and worked as a professor at the Faculty of History and at the university’s School of Journalism. At the age of 19, he began writing poetry in the Chacabuco prison camp in the Atacama Desert, where he was deported from the National Stadium in Santiago. In exile, he published his testimony Chacabuco (Rome, 1974) and returned to Chile in 1979.

As a political prisoner, J. Montealgere received his first award at the Festival de la Poesía y la Canción de Chacabuco in 1974, followed by numerous other prizes to date. He is currently working on the sequel to Frazadas del Estadio Nacional, the German translation of which, National Stadium 1973, is now available. J. Montealegre is the curator of the exhibition on the 50th anniversary of the military coup at the National Library in Chile. (Photo: Álvaro Hoppe, Photo Estadio Nacional: Juan Domingo Politi Donati)
