Reading from the book „Am Ende wartet das Vergessen. A story from Colombia“ with the author Héctor Abad Faciolince (Medellín, Colombia), followed by a discussion with the author and the publisher Irmtrud Wojak.
The book is a moving tribute to one of the most important doctors in Latin America and to the author’s father, Héctor Abad Gómez. The doctor, who wanted to defeat the epidemics in Colombia, was targeted by the Colombian paramilitaries and was murdered on the street in 1987. His son paints an unforgettable picture of a man who followed his conscience in one of the darkest periods of Latin America’s recent history and touches us with his portrayal of the deep love between father and son.
Héctor Abad Faciolince was born in 1958 in Medellín, Colombia, where he studied medicine, philosophy and journalism. He now lives back in Colombia and writes a weekly column for the leading Colombian newspaper El Espectador. The writer has received numerous awards for his work.
