The Fritz Bauer Forum is being built at the main cemetery in Altenbochum as an international place for research, education, art and dialogue in Bochum. In honour of Fritz Bauer’s life’s work, it promotes the debate on democracy and human rights. The former Havkenscheid mourning hall and the adjoining former municipal depot are at the centre. The design was created by Bochum city architect Ferdinand Keilmann (1907-1979), who was a member of the NSDAP. After 1945, Keilmann underwent the denazification process twice, after which he was appointed to the Bochum Building Department. Since autumn 2023, the Fritz Bauer Library has been used as an event venue and the books are gradually moving in. The tour will focus not only on the history of the site and its new use by the Fritz Bauer Forum, but also on the construction progress of the main building of the Fritz Bauer Forum and future plans.
A joint programme of the VHS Bochum and the Fritz Bauer Forum.
