Lecture and discussion with Dr David Johannes Berchem (Reporting Office for Discrimination in Football in NRW)
Just in time for the EURO 2024 in Germany, images showing the idealised world of football are once again dominating. There is often talk of the integrative power of football. On the other hand, we are witnessing an increase in anti-Semitic incidents and far-right parties gaining political space, which represent a real threat to the culture of remembrance and democracy. Anti-democratic and misanthropic tendencies are reflected in football in the form of anti-Semitic prejudice structures and anti-Semitic images of others, which will be examined in the lecture on the basis of analyses by the Reporting Office for Discrimination in Football in NRW. Finally, practices of resistance critical of anti-Semitism will be discussed.
Dr David Johannes Berchem is project manager at the Reporting Centre for Discrimination in Football in NRW (MeDiF-NRW) and lecturer for special tasks at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Ruhr University Bochum.

An event organised by the Fritz Bauer Forum in cooperation with the Reporting Centre for Discrimination in Football (MeDiF-NRW) as part of the „Spielräume“ football culture festival
