The third and last reading sponsored by the Cultural Office of the City of Bochum with poems, a short story and biographical material by Mascha Kaléko.
Mascha Kaléko died exactly 50 years ago. A poet who was completely underestimated during her lifetime.
Her poetry is tender, feminine, sometimes humorous and her texts deal with things that almost everyone knows: love, loneliness, parting, financial hardship, longing; „everyday poetry“ in the best sense of the word.
Her style oscillates between fragility and poignancy. Her poetry is ironic, unsentimental and political. This idiosyncratic mixture makes her work irresistible and timeless. She can take pleasure in nature and inconspicuous little things like a child; her poems of love, escape and loss get under your skin. She gives us a sense of what it is like to be wanted nowhere, to have only love as a home.
