THE EXAMPLE OF THE ORGANISATION SIKKUY-AUFOQ

Maja Sojref attempts to analyse the successes, challenges and prospects of Jewish-Palestinian cooperation in Israel in order to make the commitment of democratic civil society visible after 7 October 2023.

Raghad Jaraisy, co-director of Sikkuy-Aufoq, will join us from Israel to give an insight into the relationship between the Israeli state and the Arab minority, Jewish and Palestinian citizens, and to report on current challenges and opportunities.

Following the horrific terrorist attacks by Hamas and other armed groups on 7 October 2023, democratic civil society in Israel played a crucial role in caring for survivors and internally displaced persons as well as de-escalating and combating hate speech and incitement within the country. In the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, initiatives by Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel are also campaigning for an end to the war, humanitarian supplies for the population in Gaza and a political solution to the conflict. What challenges are these initiatives currently facing? What prospects does their work open up for a democratic and equal future for all Israelis and a peaceful future in Israel and Palestine? And what does all this mean for the discourse in Germany?

Series of events: „We need need need to talk“, sponsored by „Demokratie leben!“
