Information on
The Open Monument Day® is the largest cultural event in Germany. Since 1993, it has been coordinated nationwide by the German Foundation for Monument Protection, which is under the patronage of the Federal President. The listed former Havkenscheid mourning hall, which has since become the Fritz Bauer Library, will be open to visitors on 14 September 2025 from 14:00 to 18:00. We will also be offering an interesting accompanying programme with a guided tour on the origins of the site and the work of the Fritz Bauer Forum, a book flea market and opportunities for discussion. Coffee and cake will be available in our Café Historias. We look forward to seeing you!
This year’s Open Monument Day® takes place under the motto: „Valuable-full: priceless or irreplaceable?“
Programme
15:00 – 15:30, guided tour
How does a former mourning hall become a library? Why is it a listed building? And what does the Fritz Bauer Forum actually do? The tour sheds light on the history of the site and its new use by the Fritz Bauer Forum.
14.00 – 18.00, book flea market
For a donation, you can purchase various books on the subject of human rights, resistance and the Nazi regime at our book flea market.
You can also find out more about the Fritz Bauer Forum, talk to staff, take information material with you, find out about upcoming events or buy one of the books from the BUXUS EDITION at any time from 2-6 pm. You can enjoy coffee and cake in the Café Historias.
The nationwide programme for the Open Monument Day® can be found here.
