ATTEMPT AT AN APPRECIATION

Lecture and discussion with Roland Vossebrecker(Stanisław Hantz educational organisation)

On 7 October 1944, the most important resistance action in the history of the Auschwitz camp took place. The men of the Sonderkommando dared to revolt against the overpowering SS. One of the Birkenau crematoria was destroyed, three SS men were killed and several others were injured.

The lecture attempts to shed light on the horrific circumstances of the uprising and to honour the courage of the resisters. Two members of the resistance in particular, the two chroniclers Salmen Leventhal and Salmen Gradowski, will be discussed.

Roland Vossebrecker (1965) is a musician. As a composer and pianist, he regularly plays benefit concerts for climate justice. In addition to his musical activities, he is also involved in educational work on Holocaust issues at the Stanisław Hantz educational organisation ( www.bildungswerk-ks.de). Every year, he organises and leads educational trips to Oswiecim/Auschwitz and Lodz (Litzmannstadt ghetto, Kulmhof murder camp).
