Lecture and subsequent discussion with attorney Dr Florian Fischer and Dr Irmtrud Wojak

In his lecture „The European Convention on Human Rights between Economics and Politics“, Florian Fischer will first give an overview of the European Convention on Human Rights and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. He will then discuss the correlation between the economic situation and the human rights situation. Finally, he will refer to a mechanism that he calls the „institutionalisation of human rights“, i.e. a self-declared responsibility of politics and the state for their own human rights situation. This mechanism has prompted him for many years to warn against the corruption of the human rights sector. Are human rights in the grip of politics and crisis?

Dr Florian Fischer is a lawyer in Düsseldorf. He has been working intensively on human rights issues since 2006. He is the author of the Rhenish Commentary on the European Convention on Human Rights, the third edition of which was published in 2020.

Moderator: Dr Irmtrud Wojak, Managing Director of the BUXUS STIFTUNG and initiator of the Fritz Bauer Forum
