„A lucky child“ is the title of US lawyer Thomas Buergenthal’s autobiography. The term „lucky child“ sounds paradoxical in this context. As a child, Thomas Buergenthal survived the cruel world of the ghettos and the Auschwitz camp. As a teenager, he learnt about the world of the economic miracle and repressed history in the Federal Republic of Germany and discovered the USA for himself as a student, where he became one of the most respected lawyers. In this interview, the lawyer explains how, despite all the suffering, he drew conclusions about what humanity and human dignity mean.
