Guilt. Punishment. Right?

Member of the Bundestag Axel Echeverria (SPD) enables local artists to exhibit their work in his constituency office in Bahnhofstraße in Witten. Paintings by Reinhold Spratte are currently on display. He is working with the Fritz Bauer Forum, a centre for human rights that is currently being established in Bochum. Spratte designs the covers for the „Fritz Bauer Bibliothek“ (BUXUS EDITION) book series, some of which can be seen in the exhibition.

Since his election in autumn 2021, Axel Echeverria (SPD) has been using a former shop at Bahnhofstraße 12 in Witten as his constituency office. Instead of empty walls and shop windows, local art is on display.

„Art enriches our everyday lives. With its large open spaces and inviting shop windows, my constituency office in Witten is ideal for the exhibitions. It is also important to me to give local artists the opportunity to exhibit their works centrally and in a way that is recognisable to everyone. The feedback from passers-by has been good. Interested people who ‚just want to have a look‘ keep coming in,“ says Echeverria.

Reinhold Spratte’s current exhibition includes pictures painted in oil, acrylic or a combination of both techniques. The non-representational, abstract paintings, whose forms, surfaces and colour schemes only emerged in the dialogical process of painting, were created from many superimposed layers and exhibit an exciting relationship between forms and colours. The paintings are deliberately untitled. This prevents the creative process of viewing from being prematurely channelled into predefined paths.

Viewers are thus freer in their encounter with the pictures. And freedom is what Reinhold Spratte is all about.

Interested artists who would like to exhibit their works can either contact the office directly on site, by telephone on 0173 6596246 or by e-mail at axel.echeverria.ma03@bundestag.de.
