Peace through international courts? The current wars and the crisis of international law

Two renowned international law experts reflect on the current state of war and international law in a crisis from a historical perspective and seek answers for a solution to the current crisis situation. Are there instruments of international law that could lead to peace? Is international criminal jurisdiction a toothless tiger and a pawn of political rulers? Who decides on war and peace, the law or governments?

Together with the Institute for International Law of Peace and Humanitarian Law (IFHV/RUB), the Fritz Bauer Forum has once again invited the Spanish jurist Dr Juan Garcés, advisor to Chilean President Dr Salvador Allende Gossens and Pinochet prosecutor (1996), winner of the Right Livelihood Award (1999), to Bochum. Prof. Dr Pierre Thierlbörger, head of the IFHV, who holds a professorship for public law and international law at the RUB and whose research interests include the „essence“ of human rights, will discuss with him.
