Regina Mertens & Günter Pohl | Cuba’s humanitarian crisis – the island in the stranglehold of the USA’s blockade policy

Regina Mertens and Günter Pohl will provide an insight into the current situation in Cuba. The evening will begin with a report on the medical emergency situation in Cuba and the current aid provided by Humanitarian Cuba Aid Bochum, followed by a categorisation of the US blockade in the overall political context. The medical and social consequences of the US policy will then become clear. Afterwards there will be room for questions and discussion.

Dr Regina Mertens has been working as a general practitioner and specialist in internal and general medicine as well as infectiology, travel and tropical medicine in Bochum Langendreer since 2009. She has travelled to African countries several times in the context of tropical medicine and regularly gives lectures on infectiological and, in particular, tropical medicine topics. She is a member of Humanitäre Cuba Hilfe e.V. Bochum, where she is responsible for medical issues and donations, the management of donations to hospitals in Pinar del Rio and Santiago de Cuba, medical and social institutions in Havana, as well as the art education project Farmacia and the animal welfare project PROBAF.
