Performative Reading

Affect, memory, and sensation

This presentation stages a form of ritual forensics, not the reconstruction of a singular truth, but the activation of traces. The voice becomes an instrument for sensing what persists beneath dominant narratives, what lingers, what mutates, what attaches itself to the body and continues.Articulating assimilation conditions of different hauntings buried with no resolution. It make spaces in this the audience is not positioned as passive listeners, but as witnesses within this field of emergence. To listen here is to enter into proximity with unstable forms, to encounter expressions that oscillate between revelation and distortion.

Voice operates as a carrier of residue. It moves through the body before it is understood, registering as vibration, interruption, dissonance. Layering affect, memory, and sensation in ways that exceed language.

Allowing us to time travel and be in conversation with the past.

Takudzwa Mukesi is a multimedia designer, artist, and researcher currently pursuing a PhD in Media Studies at Ruhr University Bochum. He holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Namibia University of Science and Technology, a foundation that informs his interdisciplinary approach to art, design, and spatial practice. Takudzwa is also the Creative Director of Xkepticworld and Skhooli, art, architecture, and design houses that use African-surrealism and transient ritual processes as conceptual frameworks. Through these practices, he creates work that celebrates, represents, and critiques diverse human conditions, while exploring speculative memory, and ritualized spatial practices as tools for interrogating historical, virtual, and embodied realities.
